What’s the meaning behind your name?
My dad used to play lots of Thelonious Monk when I was little, so when it came to having an alias for music, I wanted to be as cool as the Monk himself so I chose his name for a stage name.
What other names have you had?
Only one so far, I got a bunch of nicknames I gave myself and my friends gave me as well.
Which song of yours would you first want people to hear?
Yella Cab by Curren$y, it’s one of my favorite beats I’ve ever made.
Who was your Hip Hop idol growing up?
Early on it was Pharrell and Chad Hugo, I was heavily into N.E.R.D as a youngin’. Can’t forget Bobbito Garcia either, I wanted to be DJ Cucumber Slice growing up.
Which musician would you most like to work with?
Artists like Karriem Riggins, Terrace Martin, and the band Bad Bad Not Good.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
I’d be homeless.
What’s success to you?
Being happy with yourself, being driven by self and not a dollar. It could be knowledge of self and gaining wisdom from others. That sounds pretty successful.
Which country produces the best food and women?
I’m gonna be bias, my granddad straight from Jamaica, I heard the women are pretty nice down there too.
What’s your vice?
I don’t smoke or drink, I guess biting my nails would count.
What’s your favourite animal?
A tie between Pandas and Cats.
