When Frank came out, I was about 15. Even though I would have rather listened to Hip Hop, when my mum bought Amy Winehouse’s first album, it really stood out to me.
Her use of London slang immediately separated her from a world of bland RnB singers. The fact she used ‘sket’ a word which, up until that point I had only heard used by my peers at school, made her seem pretty cool for a pop star.
It doesn’t really matter how troubled her life was, she was a truly unique talent. It’s sad to say the least that we’ve lost one of music’s most rebellious and outspoken songwriters.
R.I.P. Amy Winehouse.
