Acid Rap, which has gained the MC a lot of recognition since its release in April, made it to #63 on Billboard‘s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart after selling 1,000 units in a week in early July, it has been reported.

The mixtape, which was free to download on Chance the Rapper’s website, was being sold without authorisation through iTunes and Amazon, and Chance and his people are now fighting to get the tape removed from online retailers.

Due to the fact that Chance isn’t signed to a record label, he is not protected by the RIAA in circumstances such as these so will have to take action himself. The rapper’s manager, Pat Corcoran, managed to look on the positive side though, saying, “How often does a bootleg hit a Billboard chart?”

True, it might not be the nicest feeling to know people are selling something you gave out to the public for free, but it’s still a great endorsement for Acid Rap.
