After appearing in their Pretty Tough Girls Zine, I recently spoke to Baby-G for an online interview. Read it below and here.
Fashion Graduate turned music tastemaker, Lily Mercer gives a quick interview ahead of her set in Selfridges for Baby-G.
Name:Lily Mercer
Location:London
Occupation:Music journalist and DJ
What are you listening to at the moment?
The new G-Herbo mixtape, Ballin Like I’m Kobe plus a guy called Natia from Inglewood. I listen to a lot of Buju Banton all the time.
How did you get into the music industry?
I kinda fell into it after graduating in Fashion Journalism – it seemed a lot more exciting to me at that moment. My friend at SB.TV, Georgia LA, suggested I blog for them and I eventually became their online editor. Soon after that I started writing for Dazed & i-D and then my Rinse FM show started.
How important is it to take risks?
Very important – you have to be willing to gamble wisely in order for things to pay off in the long run. I watched Nardwuar’s ‘TED Talk’ and he said that he’s always nervous before an interview because if you’re not nervous, it’s not challenging anymore and you’re not going to improve. I always think of that – whether I’m DJ-ing, interviewing a big musician or hosting a launch party for an issue of Viper.
