What’s the meaning behind your name?
“Mick” is a name that I gained while in college at Oakwood University. I wanted to do something a little different for the start of that part of my life. The name has stuck with me ever since.

What other names have you had?
My real name is Jayson Jenkins.

Which song of yours would you first want people to hear?
Negro League.

Who was your Hip Hop idol growing up?
Kanye when I was growing up. But I’ve grown out of the admiration I had for him as a result of the direction he began taking his music after 808s. Andre 3000 is someone that I look up to now more than ever.

Which musician would you most like to work with?
Bilal.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
I’d been doing copywriting and community management for a marketing firm in Chicago’s west loop, before the unreliability of a rap career forced me into an ultimatum. I would probably have continued with my marketing experience.

What’s success to you?
Success is determined by each individual person. To me, success is never fully attained. I feel like we all have goals and dreams, big and small, that we want to see come to fruition. When/if they do, you were successful in accomplishing your goals. But I don’t think that alone makes you successful. We always have to say someone is a, successful-“something” whether rapper, businessman, ballplayer. Nobody just says “he’s successful,” and for me I’m not sure I know completely what success is for me.

Which country produces the best food and women?
I’ve been to a few countries, Italy was where I spent the most time so they win by default.

What’s your vice?
Procrastination.

What’s your favorite animal?
Humans.
